= not really, he didn't know there were so many cables...
he only purged them (air in brakes is very bad)
what he says / asks :
* you need to know where is the problem !!! >david
* brake hose at wheel are most fragile because when one changes the brake pad it is the only thing that holds it....
* if only one failed you maybe don't have to change the whold thing at the first place...
* or is it at the pedal ?
* you can drive even with one less... (he's currently at 3 & 1/2 so to say)
* not good for emergency brake
* don't do if the brake is stuck on the wheel
* to change the 4:
* sounds like a good idea
* and shouldn't be too complicated
OTHERS ON BRAKES
when to know you need to purge the brakes:
* when the pedal is too soft and makes a "spongy noise"
= there is air in the circuit
* you need to add liquid to remove the air
* if there is a bubble in the circuit it's supr annoying:
* you have to disassemble the whole system...
* doesn't mean you have to change it all
to purge the brakes you need:
* the EXACT liquid for your model
(he didn't get the right one and had to order again)
* A LOT of liquid

Van fixing - FOR FRIENDS
Could you give me any lead on a mechanic for my quite messed up 1984 VW LT furgon?
It needs to have some parts changed, which I'd supply. Much appreciated.
Do you think I can leave the car at this mechanic?
Because I would bring it end of November. I would come with parts, but maybe some other parts would need to be ordered from Europe. I don't know much about cars or this particular mechanic ... Do you have an opinion?
The question is if it's okay to leave a car there for one month or so if it needs to be fixed and wait for parts..
Van fixing - FOR GROUPS
Hi all. I've bought a campervan/furgon in a not-optimal condition some 2 years ago, and now it's finally time to fix it. Do you have any recommendations about car mechanics / car repair?
The specifics are:
* It's a diesel 1984 VW LT2.8
* ... a rusty old campervan. So nothing fancy please. Somebody who will not disrespect this project.
* I will It will probably have to be there for 2 months or so if any additional parts have to be ordered. Any experience welcome about leaving a car with them like that? Costs??
* Time is less a focus than a price.
* Also building a relationship would be welcome as this car will be a money sink in the next few years.
Thank you all so much.
Hi all. I'm looking for recommendations - looking for a car mechanic for fixing a classic van (1984 VW LT2.8) in a pretty bad condition, but just make it road worthy, to pass ITV. I would help supply the parts. A mechanic that would be enthusiastic about the project and would know some English is a plus, but I'm grateful for any recommendation.

Me interesa si tienes interes en estas coches? Si no, puedes recomender un otro mecanico, por favor?

General parts info question - for Slovenian original VW guys
prihajam iz Kranja. Na otoku v Španiji sem si kupil dotrajan starejši kombi.
Zanime me, če me lahko usmerite k nekomu, ki bi mi lahko pomagal razvozlati informacije o rezervnih delih za ta zdaj že klasičen avto?
Konkretno me zanimajo naprimer deli:
* splošno, ki bi jih priporočili menjati takoj (seveda filtri, zavorne linije, itn)
* gumene cevi na motorju
* ogledalo na voznikovi strani je bilo odtrgano, torej skupaj z nosilcem?
* pa tudi - čisto splošni nasveti?
Najlepša hvala, in lep dan želim,

Can you personally get the van insured somehow from abroad (example, France) ?
pau: "answer is no"
Is it possible with a non-Spanish (foreign) insurance office?
This looks like it might be possible ?:
"Similarly, if you have a Spanish-registered car, it must be insured with a Spanish insurance company or a foreign insurance company with an office in Spain."
1) French insurance
NO THEY DON'T DO
see calls and forum answer
* French insurances insure car registered in France.
* possible coverage for up to 90 days abroad
1A) with matmut
1B) with another French based insurance that does international (axa?)

* easy, they ask me documents to provide (which ones?)

2) International insurance
* anything about an international / european insurance ???

3) Spanish insurance

* get NIE from embassy (seems to be possible)
* CHT has a post address on the island

* any other scenario???
* find a local person that will accept to be that guy

no. but it may be possible to just show up to a bar night and try to talk to 200 people.

* résidente française (yeah well) voulant assurer un van à Lanzarote
* quelle est la procédure?
* questions possibles:
* le van ne m'appartient pas, c'est un bien commun pour un projet de recherche....(will they understand?)
or: mon "partenaire" a acheté ce van en juin 2016 pour un projet ?
* contrôle technique (jamais passé depuis l'achat)
* assurance multiconducteur
* garages à recommander
* French resident who wants to insure a car in Lanzarote
* what's the process?
* possible questions:
* I don't own the van, it is a common for a research project
or: my "partner" bought this van in June 2016 for a project ?
* ITV (never since then)
* insurance for several drivers
* any garage to recommend
Hola, buenos dias.
Perdone, me interesa más saber si usted hablan ingles. Esto seria mucho mas facil para mi.
* Residente francés (si bueno) que quiere asegurar una camioneta en Lanzarote
* ¿cuál es el procedimiento?
* posibles preguntas:
* la furgoneta no me pertenece, es un bien común para un proyecto de investigación ... (¿lo entenderán?)
oro: mi "socio" compró esta camioneta en junio de 2016 para un proyecto?
* Control técnico (nunca pasado desde la compra).
* seguro multiconductor
* garajes para recomendar
* supposedly the only one French insurance that does international
* French insurance can insure a car for 90 days max abroad
* for French car
* only temporary, no perennity
CAN A NON-SPANISH PERSON INSURE A CAR REGISTERED IN SPAIN?
* New infos:
* in order to insure a van in Spain (if you are not a Spanish resident):
* you don't need a NIE:
"it is ok to not have a tax number" --AXA FR
check >pau !!!
* you just need an address:
(a "secondary [Spanish] residency")
you need a NIE to own the car.
* contact local AXA agency for Lanza
* "Bris de glace" (FR general)
+33 970 820 018
* standard -> service souscription -> agence @Tours
* french speaking insurance contact
* based in Spain
* recommended everywhere on expat networks
* they insure any car in Spain
* if it has Spanish plates
* insure a car with a owner that doesn't have driving license
* insure a car to a person that is not the owner:
SO WE CAN CHANGE OWNERSHIP ??? >d >pau
* how much does this cost?:
maybe ~100€ ?
* how long does it take?:
"pau needs to understand what owning this car in Lanzarote ENTAILS"
OK THESE ARE TWO SEPARATE ISSUES OF (LEGAL) RESPONSIBILITY:
A) being the owner
<pau for your info:
* legally as soon as you are the owner of a vehicle you must insure it even when it never drives !!!
* you can save yourself from that by having the car in a non usable shape:
* wheels not in contact to the ground
* battery and diesel removed
NOTHING <------------------------ !!!!!! TODO
1) scary story about leaving a car without insurance:
= VERY BAD >david
* if the van would burn on the island while you're not there
* and eventually burn things around (like a nearby house)
* you are responsible
* if you personally have a household insurance ("incendie habitation"), you're covered
B) being the insurer
* in the case of B), if your car is stolen or destroyed:
* if this is covered in the insurance plan
* indemnities are given to the insurer not to the owner
* unless something else is written in the contract
* the insurer, if different from the owner:
* "as main driver" on the insurance is responsible for all paper works, declarations and paiments
* "as second driver" means less coverage but no responsability on the paper works
* if someone drives your car with your permission and causes an accident, the accident will stay on your record and may increase your premium.
* the uninsured drivers around that may cause an accident with us
" According to an Insurance Research Council (IRC) study, if someone is injured in an auto accident, the chances are about one-in-seven that the at-fault driver is uninsured. Don't trust other drivers and don't take for granted that they will have as good of coverage as you do. Though it can be hard to digest that you must pay a premium and the deductible for someone else's mistake, it's better than forgoing this coverage and risking losing your vehicle. "
* in the event of natural calamities that can destroy your vehicle you'll only be able to rely on your own insurance.
In case such a situation arises, it is better to have enough coverage to fully repair or replace your vehicle.
#CONTINGENCIES (for either OWNER, or INSURER, or BOTH)
WHERE ARE THE ANSWERS?
A) it is found somewhere in the middle of the desert, without a license plate ... you might get in trouble ... In Spain
They could try to collect money from you, if:
a) you get stopped by police randomly
b) they figure it out on the (Spanish) airport, for example
B) car gets crashed, the driver runs away
C) car gets stolen, you are not on the island ...
D) CHT wants to change the car ownership
INSURANCE WE WISH
!!! check these with insurer :)
A) pau drives van, gets in an accident she didn't cause
B) ... she caused and hurt the van
C) ... she hurt another car and is responsible
D) another random CHT person gets in an accident
E) we rent the van via airbnb to random people, they wreck it
F) van just breaks down. we need to tow it.
G) van gets broken into, on a friends land:
what happens to lock / window damage repair?
what happens to lost stuff?
F) ... on a public land
"anyone with >25 years & >2 license can drive an insured car in Spain"
"the car is insured for everybody" >pau
* Third-party insurance (responsabilidad civil obligatoria or seguro obligatorio) is the minimum required by law
* Roadside assistance (asistencia en viajes):
* covers glass breakage (rotura de lunas) and legal expenses (defensa penal) in the event of a court case.
* It may be included in basic third-party cover or can be added to your policy for a premium.
* Third-party, Fire & Theft: (responsabilidad civil obligatoria, incendio y robo) is known in some countries as ‘part comprehensive’ insurance
* Comprehensive insurance: (sometimes called ‘fully comprehensive’) is known in Spain as ‘all risk’ (todo riesgo).
* It covers all the aforementioned risks under third-party, fire and theft insurance; in addition to insuring you for other damage that you or someone else causes to your vehicle
* (some insurance companies do not provide comprehensive cover for vehicles that are more than two or three years old)
* it’s possible to take out comprehensive cover for vehicles up to ten years old
* Driver & Passenger insurance optional: seguro de ocupantes
Other things to check for coverage:
* Towing coverage
* Rental coverage -> if we would need a replacement, we may not care about this
* Multiple drivers -> it can be cheaper for the overall insurance to declare it at first
" Generally speaking, multiple drivers must live at the same residence and be related by blood or by marriage. Two non-related people may also be able to obtain a discount; however, they usually must jointly own the vehicle. "
= existing case of one owner and one insurer
* up to the insurance company to accept or not
* be super transparent >david
* when choosing garanties this requires even more attention
* have personal agreements between owner and insurer because in case of problems it can be tricky legally (to document more)
Things to clarify
<pau: I don't understand this >david:
* Deductible Versus Premium
" The insurance deductible is inversely proportional to the premium amount. If the deductible goes up, the premium goes down and vice versa. This relationship reflects whether you prefer to pay more or less from your own pocket before stretching out your hand to the insurer. Whichever option you choose, make sure you can afford it. Some people are better off paying a higher monthly premium in exchange for a lower deductible to avoid any large payments after an accident. "
* Consider Raising Your Deductibles
" When selecting car insurance, you can typically choose a deductible, or the amount of money you would have to pay before insurance picks up the tab in the event of an accident, theft or other type of damage to the vehicle. Depending on the policy, deductibles typically range from $250 to $1,000. The catch is, generally speaking, the lower the deductible, the higher the annual premium. Conversely, the higher the deductible, the lower the premium. Ask your agent how your premium might be affected if you raised your deductible. It may make the annual premium better by several percentage points and put some money back in your pocket, or the savings may be minimal. "
"insurance is on a person not on a car"
Consider to increase the safety of a car left alone for long by:
* fitting in a tracking device
* using a gear lock
General infos often needed:

MAIL FOR BRAKE LINES
A brake hose failed and a friend advised me to change the whole set, as they're all quite deteriorated looking. The van is in Spain however ... Would you be so kind to tell me what exactly a whole set would constitute? Should I get something else with the lines as well, that I can't expect a vanilla workshop would have on them?
Thank you so much for the response,
Q: How about these that I see are really long???
TALK WITH +IGOR @ 2018-10-28
* CHANGE all engine liquids
* inspect servo breaking ... pumps !
* u have to build and ride ... and then listen
* they will make you custom lines
Q: what is the servo breaking? should i get some parts?
rear drums are prob fine ...
but change the hydraulic cylinder for the breaking pedal (x2)
(for handbrake) the left & right is the same, get the springs and stuff.
* drum pads wear down!
two "half moon" things ... both systems use the same braking ...
"you have to disassemble it and leave it to the mechanic"
there's 4 of them ...
resolve: buy 2 of them? (you can change at least one wheel)
* for the HB there's a set of springs ...
CAN YOU SEND ME THIS
* "elastic parts for the brakes"
* cylinder (THE REAR)
buy brake cylinders for the rear axle ... for each wheel
buy rubber reinforced brake lines (metal connects with rubber) ...
one goes to rear axle ... between there is rubber ones (because things move) ... "i think there's 5 in T3"
FLEXIBLE PIPE, REINFORCED RUBBER, WITH TWO METAL THREADS
i would exchange both.
* YOU NEED TO HAVE A COOLING SYSTEM, BREAK SYSTEM, OIL AND FILTERS OKAY
* "the big issue is many screws will buy but you don't know which ones"
this is the bad part with classic cars but u can't do nothing about it
* COOLING SYSTEM. antifreeze plugs. ("5cm holes in the block") ...
engine has water and oil system.
well, they're made of thin metal. they very often corrode in old cars - you might have a leakage!
to take them out, you (maybe) have to take out the engine...
you have to force it with a big hammer ... there's no washers ... the force to the block is strong!
i would be very careful with the radiator.
BUY: whole set of rubber holes for the cooling system. buy high quality, heavy duty stainless steel.
COOLING SYSTEM PLUG
if it's fucked you need to know it.
* "the first thing you do is exchange all the rubber holes [hoses?]"
YOU NEED TO BUY A SET - ALL OF THEM.
"contact resellers, they are pros, they will fix you up, they make mistakes ... but this is how it is."
"if you will have problems, i can give you a contact in turkey ... lol"
"one was 350€ ... i got one from Turkey ... it's a complicated element, with a lot of T pieces"
* he has to make a test if radiator is heating!
"take out the radiator, see what's up. put 2 bars in it ... don't put 5 bars - you'll blow it!"
"you can do it with air, best is with water:"
* cooling radiator fan has to operate!
for sure there is one, but does it work automatically? check!
fuel (don't buy the cheapest one) ... T3 has two!
* new coolant after draining whole system
it's not easy - engine does not have bottom valve ... but put some air in it
the air newer goes out fully ... you never get rid of everything but try to get the most you can ...
you'll need 15-20L for real life.
* change exhaust
if you do this - run and listen:
* bearing! this is a heavy car, and it's dangerous. you need to make sure about it.

I've got some questions about the LT.
Which parts do you think I need to bring with me, from memory, what would you recommend?
Right now I'm ordering:
* left & right handbrake line
* right-side (windshield) pillar
On the island I plan to get:
* exterior mirror & handle ... don't know where to get original?
* 2 x front tires
I'm not sure about:
* brake lines: I tried to look at the car schematics but it's too much different stuff. I don't remember which one broke specifically but you told me to change all. When I tried to ask people in the FB forums, and everyone tells me they are easy to make, you just cut a copper-nickel pipe, and that every mechanic will know how to do it.
Do you have any other suggestions?
Maybe some parts that you always need and mechanic will not have ... Or something you remember would be easy but important to replace (I remember you mentioned "sad leaf springs", etc).
Thank you very much

Disconnect the negative connector once the nut is loosened by pulling it off. Set it aside, away from the battery. Loosen the nut on the positive terminal and disconnect it from the battery. Remove the battery, being careful not to let the positive terminal touch any metal part of the car.

QQQ on pepe oil
AD MDX 15W50
* is it synthetic or mineral?
* what should it be, or is it the same?
The first number 15W is the viscosity of the oil at cold temperature, and the second number 40 is the viscosity at 100 °C
The MDX engine oil 15W50 AD responds to the new concept of high-tech products are the new generation of lubricants of the future.
The use of 15W50 lubricant AD MDX is recommended for all Gasoline and Diesel engines, including the turbocharged direct injection. Its special formulation is suitable lubricants for vehicles with catalyst.
Its excellent performance at both high and low temperature, a lubricant makes it ideally suited to large climatic differences between different areas of our country and its seasonal changes charged.
15W50 oil MDX AD is compatible with all motor oils on the market.
While it is true that viscosity relates to temperature and in some climates a higher viscosity in summer and lower in winter sometimes makes sense, you need to stick with what the manufacturer recommends.
COULD BE BAD?
15w-50 is the “thicker” oil. Which is best for your engine depends on the engine design and to some extent the ambient operating temperature. If the engine is designed for 10w-40 oil then using 15w-50 could damage it severely.

____ seals [which ones: for all doors]
... ask in forum >pau !
Message sent 2019-05-12
@ LT fb forum
Dear LT lovers,
Here we have a LT 28 in need of a front left spring and rubbers for all doors.
More about the van: VW LT 28-35 Diesel - 2.4 BOX (281-363) - RWD 1979-1992
from researching it seems that we need 281411105B or 281411105F (heavy duty)
How do we know which one to get ? and what about the wire diameter and length of coil ?
Online shops are confusing, with lots of choices and price differences...
Any experience is welcome!
Basically the info on D-shape or whatever-shape rubber seals feels like encryption for a non-educated person.
Rains pours through front doors, side door and back door, what do you recommend ?
For now that's all, thank you for any help !!
... answer bits:
1) "change [both springs] IN PAIRS !!!" [==> NO]:
* Pepe say we'll do only the broken one, so that's what we're doing.
* [pau:] common sense:
* do a centering with an unbalanced coil system make sense?
* rust role : new tensions will be created if the broken side - which was lower - becomes higher than the other
* we will probably loose the older "still good" one pretty quickly
<- we saw how it already needs zip tighs to hold in place...
* [david:] >pau if you want, ask him and "present your arguments". but:
* it takes about 4 hours of work to change the springs
* what you think is "common sense" is your lack of understanding of legacy system mechanics.
* lesson #1: IF IT IS NOT BROKEN, DO NOT FIX IT.
* ¤¤¤ DONE.
2) Brickwerks recommendation:
ACTUALLY CHEAPER !!! ~50€
A [NOT A CHOICE - OUT OF STOCK]:
281 411 105 D as heavy duty (GREEN):
NO Aftermarket info here...
281 411 105 B as standard (YELLOW) <- safer choice ?:
~50€ + POSTAGE : ~80€ ...
(asked pepe what paint is on ours):
<- "no se puede ver tiene mucho oxido "

Lost DHL paket diary
* van parts ordered from Autodoc - https://www.piecesauto-pro.fr/
* change of delivery address from France to Germany due to travel and longer delivery timeframe
* delivery notice received by email -> DHL
* DHL delivers @Berlin without phone call
* no paper with notification of delivery to be found
* name of recipient is not to be found on any door bell in the building (and nearby ones)
* DHL online and automatic help number only mentions the unknown neighbour's name
* written note for neighbours regarding the parcel
* waiting for the mysterious neighbour to call
* contacted shop for reclamation to DHL
* contacted DHL
* called the shop afetr a wek and no news
* no delivery to Canarias
* order cancelled
* wait for reimbursement ~48h
Protocol for claiming lost delivery @DHL
1/ went to Postoffice:
* got the general help number for DHL tracking
* no personal seem to be qualified to help
<- DEAD END
2/ claim for a lost parcel has to be done by the expeditor
* will get back to me asap
3/ call DHL Zentrale Deutschland:

4/ cancel order
done one week later
5/ get reimbursed in 48h

(seemed: from beginning of new tube?)
* install tachometer / rev counter:
* use output from alternator
* to show, must be a DIESEL dash (petrol is different):
modification instructions here ;) http://www.4crawler.com/Diesel/CheapTricks/Tachometer/vwdslfaq.txt
* build something myself with arduino ??
* speedometer fix:
check below, in "LT Electrical System" you get an idea
QQQ : ALTERNATOR
* is the belt worn out and not having enough tension ?
* are the carbon brushes >5mm ?
A) multimeter test to check the battery charge
* engine off -> 12,17V on battery (OK)
* engine runs -> no difference
(we should read 13,5V-15V)
* alternator does not seem to work ?
B) pepe's test for alternator problem diagnosis
* engine runs
* disconnect negative (-) pole of the battery:
A) engine keeps running == alternator works
B) engine stops == alternator problem
"Works for all cars!"
C) "BENCH TEST"
Alternator is removed.
... alternator removal
* 3 13 screws to remove
* 1 longer screw from underneath
(connects ground ?)
* removal from below (actually just falls)

* we know too little about the topic obviously
* rather focus on returning the things

"what to buy"
fiberglass VS fiberglass filler ("putty reinforced with glass fibers")
Bondo, body filler, "body putty"
* sandable after 15min
* paintable after 25min
* "best car body filler" (US list) : https://carcaretotal.com/best-car-body-fillers/
Rust converter/reformer VS rust remover
* converts rust into an inert black finish
* can be painted over
* ideal for larger objects (fence, car frames...)
* applied by brush, roller or paint sprayer
* must be applied to metal only, may affect paint adhesion (use masking tape)
* removes surface rust
* reveals bare metal
* ideal for smaller objects (hand tools, small parts...)
* parts have to be submerged into liquid
* how to apply rust converter
applying with paint brush requires 2 coats
@Ferreteria Oxy...no "1 to 3 coats with intervals of 3h"
(spray on version == 3coats | aerosol version == 4 coats)
* rust reformer vs primer etch
use metal brush + air compressor + masking tape
dry over 24h ???
not obvious from the video but:
* primer etch will just cover the rust without stopping it
* while rust reformer will structurally stop rust form expanding
* use "rust reformer" (aka rust converter ?)
use metal brush to remove superficial rust
wipe clean with methylated spirits
spray rust reformer
apply any paint coat over it
What is etch primer?
* Will Self etching primer stop rust?
"" After you remove the rust scales from the metal on your car, you need to apply self etching primer.
The way it works is that the acid forces the zinc into the top of the metal.
It's purely a surface coating, and it doesn't stop the rust. It does, however, prevent the rust problem from worsening. ""
PRIMER TYPES !!!
a) epoxy primer:
"THE ONLY PRIMER YOU CAN PUT BODY FILLER ON TOP OF"
"Have 72 hours to get back and spray base coat / surfacer / whatever on it"
good to prevent corrosion
[via https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNYOhCBZH4g 6:45]
* is more of a SEALER
* non-sandable ... you can do it with a direct-action with 180 to prepare it
b) self-etching primer (in aerosol spray cans):
"has acid in it, might lift, not compatible with everything"
also good to prevent corrosion
c) "regular" primer surfacer:
DO NOT PUT DIRECT TO STEEL - as "it does not have anti-corrosive properties"
can be sanded
can be put on top of epoxy (???) ~4:10
d) DTM ("direct-to-metal") primer:
can be sanded
and covered with primer surfacer

SCUFFING ?????? (CHECK LABEL!!!!!!)
* you have only a 3-day window to paint on it ???
* otherwise: SCUFF (scratch ~320 grit / wet 220 grit) + ANOTHER LAYER
mp170 states after their epoxy has sat more then 3 days it should be scuffed and reapplied, so I'd apply another coat over everything to be safe and adhere to the recommendations of the manufacturer, never mind rereading looks like that was your plan anyways
ON THE OTHER HAND:
"I don't suggest sanding epoxy primers including PPG or Omni epoxy's. They are NONE SANDING primers. They sand like bubble gum and clog paper and scuff pads. You should spray your epoxy then cover with a sandable primer filler."
A) fibra mastica
B) fibra vidrico
Painting / "Topcoating"
PREPARE FOR PAINT:
* 600 grit on epoxy:
"Then I would sand that primer to a 600 grit finish before topcoating."
SPRAY CAN (AEROSOL) PAINT:
* use "primer" ("IMPRIMACION"? "FUNDACION"?) first:
spray 20-30cm away

* wait 1-5 minutes between coats ["FLASH TIME"]
* apply 2??? coats
* then wait ?
* then apply ? coats for BLANCO MATE
* there's different primers ! self-etch will stick best to bare metal:
[esp: cartilla de auto grabado]
??? sand a little bit
buff the car
coat with wax
WAIT 30 DAYS BEFORE WAXING:
STEP BY STEP: State #3 == holes #process
* destroy rust with screwdriver

* Last hour = primer white and that's it.
Check HOW TO:
* Sand epoxy primer
<- with a very fine sanding paper ? 180 or 220 grits
* use a guide coat on top of the primer... (on a surf https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0ta2houygU )
* or as in http://autobodystore.com/forum/showthread.php?8609-Sanding-epoxy-primer
"" don't pay too much attention to epoxy recoat window times.
There are a lot of variables involved in the companies coming up with their recoat window time.
put a little thinner or urethane reducer on a rag and rub it across an area of the epoxy primer.
If the primer transfers to the thinner/reducer rag then I will spray over the primer without sanding.
My reasoning is if the thinner/reducer eats into the epoxy primer then the reducers in the primer applied over that epoxy will also eat into that epoxy causing a chemical bond.
If the thinner/reducer rag does not have any epoxy primer transfered to it then the epoxy is "cured" and needs to be sanded.
Also at that point the epoxy will not plug up the sandpaper anymore either. ""
