Solisoft is a radical technology collective & solidarity network.
We call it a collective because we’re a small group who make decisions & self-organises work together. It’s radical because we don’t believe technology can “solve” every problem. Very few things actually need an “app”. We think more people should have a say in what technology can mean for society.
We’re building critical connections, not critical mass. We stay in touch with our friends & comrades by building a solidarity network, a friend-to-friend web of connections which fosters mutual aid & inclusivity. You shouldn’t assume we’re “IT professionals” or have computer science degrees; we’re interested in technology for different reasons & come from different backgrounds.
We make decisions by consensus, prioritise fair working conditions and use free software and open licenses. We support individuals, groups & businesses to use technology in ways that suit them. We can help you setup a website, run your own social-media or deploy your own real-time chat system. We run workshops & discussions on technology which provide a non-hierarchical learning environment.
We’re happy to work with local activist groups who cannot rely on corporate tools. We will do our best to prioritise requests from activists doing social justice work (e.g. housing struggle, anti-racist movement).

* Collective Tools (SWE/global)
Wouldn't it be possible for organisations to pool their resources in order to run secure and user friendly cloud services without relying on big tech? That was the question that we, Petter Joelson, long time entrepreneur and web strategist for civil society organisations and Andreas Jonsson, climate and social justice activist, asked ourselves in 2018.
When we met Trebor Scholz a few months later and heard about platform cooperativism as an exciting new business model for internet companies, the structure of Collective Tools fell into place.

"La Zona": Creating an Alternative to Large Online Retailers
To counter the negative impact of this trend, several cooperative businesses from Catalonia under the leadership of the Opcions cooperative are planning to join forces to create a cooperative sales platform called "La Zona" - or "the area" - which they envision will become a local, ethical and sustainable alternative to large online retailers like Amazon. It's set to be ready by summer of 2021.

Shows how the creation of an idealized image of the Mondragon cooperatives is part of a new global ideology that promotes cooperative labor-management relations in order to discredit labor unions and working-class organizations.
This is the first critical account of the internationally renowned Mondragon cooperatives of the Basque region of Spain. The Mondragon cooperatives are seen as the leading alternative model to standard industrial organization; they are considered to be the most successful example of democratic decision making and worker ownership. However, the author argues that the vast scholarly and popular literature on Mondragon idealizes the cooperatives by falsely portraying them as apolitical institutions and by ignoring the experiences of shop floor workers. She shows how this creation of an idealized image of the cooperatives is part of a new global ideology that promotes cooperative labor-management relations in order to discredit labor unions and working-class organizations; this constitutes what she calls the "myth" of Mondragon.
