*** WORKSHOP

    Proposal

Soft circuitry and flexible electronics open a new range of possibilities in the textile world ; wether it is endorsing new functions to empower us or allowing for self expression when worn on the body.
E-textiles tell us new stories as we can interact with them in playful ways. While exploring electrical properties of diverse materials and textile techniques we will create soft sensors and actuators.

    In Practice

    * morning introduction:
        * who we are and round table of names
        * What are electronic textiles ? Do you have an idea?
        * use multimeter to test materials (bip function) (10min)
        * show etextile circuits examples
        * electricity principle + -

        * think monsters > examples ...
        * draw the monster and the circuit (15min)
            * think about the interaction , where is the button and where is the battery system
            * Sewing and embroidery led

    * afternoon mask:
        * intro to the circuit we made
        * mask ex Audrey
        * mask pictures for inspiration
        * drawing first on the table >cute kids hesitating to draw on the table :)
        * cut materials
        * testing conductivity for antennas with crocodile clips
        * attach the thing together
        * jam and record

    * feedback session:
        * What did you like and didn't like
        * too easy?
        * new ideas on etextiles..
        (...)

    Attitudes:

    * 13th:
        Kids not so motivated  (pre teens)
        How to engage ?
        Jam in the basement
        Difficult for Audrey to engage because of language ???

    * 14th:
        Better prepared our side
        Kids more focused
        Both exercises better accompanied
        Jam outside was better
        Audrey kept talking in English and draw things > Great!

    * 15th:
        Kids (youngest group) hyperfocused in morning
        Messy afternoon... attention lost but some still very much into it
        Pb of limited crocodile clips !!! with a few more we could have kept more kids together during testing...
        Sort of recording outside... >"are we going to be on internet?" why not Soundcloud ? but is it worth it?
        Discussion about taking photos, ok to open dialogue about it if they have concerns (though the parents agreed)

    Overall reflection:

    * it's not to expect that all kids will love etextiles
    * it's great if some get new insights and interest in this

    * super satisfying moments:
        "I already tried 10000 times to sew, I can not do it!" > "lets try a 10001 time together, look I start for you" > he did it YEAH
        "..."

    * how to react to individual requests "Do I have to do this too?" > listen but insist on the exercise and it goes kinda well

    Other things:

    * cool teams
    * cool hotel stay
    * walk on the 14th

    * nice collab and shared orga before hand (Audrey in Bbzx)
    * good scheduling for prep:
        * discuss ideas in June at Paillard
        * ordered electronics for beg August (1 month delay from China)
        * buy in Paris and Cognac last hardware stuff

******* below this line : orga + general notes

* Activities (possible)

    Intro to flexible circuitry (2h):
            > no preparation else than gather materials and have an example to explain principle
            * sewing with conductive threads
            * led beads >legs can also go through fabric and bend behind... kids prefer this actually
            * textile battery pocket >annoying with kids
            * textile buttons (analog on/off and dim) >use foamy filter thing

        * (2) screenprinting with thermochromic inks and vinyl stickers

        * (3) knitting 2 colors portrait with hacked machine (30min per person ??):
            http://wiki.datapaulette.org/doku.php/atelier/projets/tricote_ta_tete

        * (4) other conductive materials

    555timer circuit: etextiles and sound (3h):
            > actually a lot of preparation for this part:
                * vinyl cut circuit >at Paillard end July
                * iron on fabric >at Bbzx beg Aug
                * solder components and speakers >at Bbzx beg Aug
                * gather conductive materials (paper, alu foil, wires, copper tape...)
            * wearable >mask / music instrument
                > was it best to do a mask for the interaction ?
