*** IN CANARY ISLANDS

Running water

Is not potable/drinkable!

It comes from desalination stations.
Info for Lanzarote:

Drinking water

We buy water in 5/8L bottles, like mostly everyone here.

Collecting water

We tried, but not more until buying land.

We don't make this the main problem.

To put it into context:
There are ~100.000 people living here with just as many tourists at most times.
Drinking water is about 2% of our total financial and/or energy costs. (and of course less for people with normal lifestyles).

Fresh water in the islands

Additionally there are parts of the island where fresh water flows freely. We planned to make a camp there somewhere in the future. But again, water is not the main concern.

As for all other ECHOTec watermakers, only highest quality raw materials that have proven to withstand continuous duty in a harsh marine environment are selected for ultimate reliability and lifetime. Therefore, we fabricate all wetted components including the true regulating pressure valve and all high-pressure fittings from high-grade austenitic stainless steel.
For most economical maintenance and global use, we do not fabricate components to proprietary dimensions. Standard filters, membrane elements and many spare parts can be obtained anywhere.

"""Aquamate solar stills are light, compact and very easy to use. They utilise solar radiation to distil and collect pure drinking water from sea or impure water. The still will produce 500-2000 ccs of water per day and has been used for over forty years by military and civilian services around the world. An ideal addition to the grab bag for any ocean going yachtsman at a fraction of the price of a mechanical or electrical unit."""

Water storage containers

https://beprepared.com/blogs/articles/5-myths-about-water-storage
"""
Water should be stored in a UV-resistant, food-grade plastic container or in metallized bags. Traditionally, water storage barrels are blue. This color limits light exposure and biological growth (bacteria and algae) and also signifies that what is stored in the container is safe for human consumption (for example, gasoline is stored in red containers).  The safest containers to hold water in are polyethylene-based plastics, or plastics #1, #2, and #4
"""

Myth #5: If I have a water purifier, I don’t need a filter.
Fact: Water purifiers like Chlorine Dioxide will kill 99.9% of all microorganisms (like protozoa, bacteria, and viruses) in your water. Chlorine Dioxide is excellent for sheltering-in-place, and also great for treating water from your barrels or water you collect from streams or rivers while hiking.  However, purifiers alone won’t remove turbidity (dirt, silt, “floaties,” and chemicals) from your water, so we recommend using a purifier and filter together to make sure your water is clean (especially if you are collecting water for drinking and washing, but turbidity is ok if you use soap while washing.)
