Het internet is dood, lang leve de internets! In 2025 bestaat het internet uit gated communities of gedecentralizeerde onafhankelijke instanties.
Voor wie verbonden wil zijn met behoud van privéleven zit er niks anders op dan nieuwe netwerken uit te tekenen, en te experimenteren met historische en innovatieve protocollen. Hacktrices, financieel idealisten, holebi-militanten, ethno-queers, radio-amateurs, biotech fans en kunstenaars opteren voor gefedereerde netwerken: verre van standaard en niet altijd betrouwbaar maar kopieerbaar, open, hackable en/of parallel. Ze installeren zelf wifi-systemen of gooien hun server in de rugzak, inplugbaar naar believen. Ze installeren hun eigen instantie ergens in de Fediverse om te communiceren en publiceren en connecteren eigenzinnige sociale netwerken met andere platformen. Netwerken met een standpunt hebben niet enkel een ‘attitude’, ze bieden een duidelijk perspectief op hun eigen specifieke oriëntatie, al dan niet geconnecteerd binnen het www.

    Work session: Networking with an attitude
    
"Networks do not tell all stories equally. Networks, like all entities with stories, tell most readily those stories in whose reflection they see themselves. 
    
The internet is dead, long live the internet! In 2025, the Internet will consist of gated communities or decentralised independent instances.
For those who want to be connected while keeping some privacy, there is no other option than to draw up new networks and experiment with historical and innovative protocols. Hacktrices, financial idealists, LGBT militants, ethno-queers, radio-amateurs, biotech fans and artists opt for federated networks: far from standard and not always reliable but copyable, open, hackable and/or parallel. They install their own WiFi systems or throw their server in their backpack, pluggable at will. They install their own instance somewhere in the Fediverse to communicate and publish and connect willful social networks with other platforms. Networks with an attitude do not only have a 'standpoint', they offer a clear perspective on their own specific orientation, whether or not connected within the www.

The coming shape of the Internet(s) might remind us about the past of the Internet? 
The multitude of social networks and protocols that are spreading, with different degrees of filters and access and opacity bears some similarity with the early times of computer networking. 
Back then different separate physical networks and protocols where experimented, before they where aggregated under the umbrella of the American TCP/IP Internet model.
This model grew to be a globalized and globalizing project, intertwined with the unfolding of neo-liberal capitalism due to its capacity for value extraction and circulation.
But the extension and capillarity of the one network, has also reached a point in which the complexity of network dynamics is the occasion for new openings and attempts. 
What was proposed as a threat, the so-called "Balkanization" of the Internet, the disintegration of its continuous fabric, could also mean the potential for different network spaces directed by shared concerns and net-affinity rather than uniformed profit.
